Those who win and lose from climate change

All actions related to climate change will involve profound changes in investment priorities and new business possibilities, and this will undoubtedly generate winners and losers. The important thing in both options is to be able to react quickly.

Most countries have committed to being carbon neutral by 2050, and that means that by 2030 they should reduce their emissions by around 70%. That is not easy and will produce serious changes.

Who wins?

There are several groups of businesses that will benefit, but not all equally and it will depend as always on the ability of each one.

Without a doubt, companies that are experts in energy efficiency are going to have a lot of work, since everyone: houses, companies, etc … will need to improve their facilities.

Recycling companies, as we must improve the percentage of recycled material, which in some cases is still very low. Taking out and recycling trash is going to be good business.

Energy storage systems: batteries, etc … must be multiplied by very high figures to supply the new needs for alternative energy.

The solar, wind, etc … generations will continue to increase their productions, and in Spain, unfortunately, we lost a good position years ago in the manufacture of solar panels that have gone to China. Could it be partially recovered?

Electric cars and battery charging infrastructures will grow rapidly.

We cannot forget the generation of hydrogen (sustainable please) to use it as fuel in trucks, trains, ships, etc …

And although a little further on, the recovery of CO2 from the atmosphere that today is very expensive but will also lower its costs.

Who loses?

In the first place, the oil and refinery companies, which, although they will still earn a lot in the short term, in the long term their future is uncertain and new investments will be put aside.

Countries with high oil revenues will have to seek other sources of financing, and the UAE is a good example of this, having long started to diversify and invest heavily in foreign companies.

If the aeronautical business is unable to find a barely polluting alternative fuel, it will continue to struggle, as large airplanes need minimal weight and a lot of engine power to get into the air.

I have a doubt about nuclear energy, because although nobody likes their waste, it is true that they do not pollute when generating energy (as long as there are no accidents, and it must be recognized that there have been very few), and there is a new generation of mini -centrals that offer new possibilities.

And on the issue of obtaining energy in a non-polluting way, today almost everything is needed since nuclear fusion is still tens of years away, although it appears a little closer than before.

With all the changes that are going to take place in general, people with little preparation and who do not know how to adapt to new circumstances will lose.

We are going to see profound changes in a very short time, and the faster ones will adapt sooner and do better. As always.
