The war of drones in the Middle East
I like to give a little time to reflect on what happens around me with the aim of having a somewhat wider perspective.
And I think it’s time to reflect on the aerial “war” based on drones we’ve seen between Israel and Hamas, and some consequences that could be derived from it.
Israel has an absolute air supremacy over the surrounding countries, but that supremacy is decreased when they are attacked with hundreds of drones at the same time, because they are small devices, which fly low and therefore difficult to detect despite their sophisticated weapons systems.
Drones have another characteristic, in that they are very cheap and simple to build. They can be made in any garage and are mounted with pieces that can come from various sources. There are very cheap Chinese drones, on which can be easily placed an explosive charge and become attack weapons.
What has happened in Israel, not long ago also happened in Saudi Arabia with the attack of drones to oil refineries and other military installations by Yemeni Rebels.
What has happened (once again in the Middle East) is something that can happen anywhere in the world, and the drones have become the “aerial weapon” of the poor to fight more powerful armies.
The poor will not have sophisticated UAV systems like the Americans who operate in the East and are controlled from the Nevada desert, but they can put hundreds of explosive-filled drones in the air that although they do not kill too many they can scare the civilian population.
Wars have a psychological part among the civilian population that is fundamental to maintain them, because without the support of people the spirit of struggle is lost.
Drones are here to stay and carry out more functions every day, almost all of them are very practical and that serve to help in daily life, but as things they can be given many utilities, the same drone that can distribute medicines, can also take a bomb and kill people.
And they have a fundamental characteristic: they are very cheap and easy to obtain, so we will continue watching news like the ones I mentioned.
