The race for the electric car

In recent months, the general situation of the electric car has changed completely and all manufacturers have launched to announce target dates when their cars will be fully electric. Some dates will be met and others will be delayed.

I think these ads are marketing strategies that help keep their traditional customers from thinking about buying cars from other competing brands.

Attached photo of some dates that are known until now.

Many of the traditional car manufacturers already have electric models on the market, and it is the luxury brands (Mercedes and others) that are the last to decide on these announcements.

Surprisingly, Toyota, which is the most advanced in hybrid cars (it began selling the hybrid Prius model 17 years ago) is the one that seems the most lagged in electric cars. And I say it seems, because it is quite easy for them to go from a hybrid car to a fully electric one, and they will do so in a sort time.

Volskwagen launched its ID3 model in 2020 and it seems that it is already selling more cars than Tesla in Europe, although both figures are still very low compared to gasoline models.

I think that the success of the electric car depends in part on the ease of being able to recharge them on the roads quickly, and although there is a lot of talk about it, I have not seen any serious plans on a national or European scale.

The change that is coming is so great (the challenge of climate change does not wait) that I do not believe that in 10 years sales will transform as much as manufacturers claim.

Meanwhile, new start-ups will continue to appear offering new models of electric cars that will have less and less chance of success, as the large manufacturers will already be filling the market with their new models.
