The new Google Nest monitors our sleep without cameras

A significant part of the population throughout their day has moments of fatigue, and it is almost always due to poor sleep, and in general they are not aware of this problem. That is what Google Nest offers with a system that monitors our sleep in a very simple way.

On the other hand, I am concerned about the issue of privacy and that is why I liked the idea of a system that can monitor our sleep without recording us with a camera and without sending that information to anyone, and that we can use our information to improve our own habits.

A product that began being a mixture of an intelligent speaker and management system for the automation of the house (lights, thermostat, etc …), has taken a leap in its new version to offer sleep control for the person who is close to the device. This function is called Sleep Sensing.

To monitor sleep without recording with a camera, it uses a “radar” system that can check how we move when we sleep, and with a microphone it hears if we snore or cough, it also measures ambient light, changes in temperature, etc … to give us a “full report” in the morning of how our sleep has been.

What seems important to me is that this information remains on the device and does not communicate with anyone, and can be erased at will.

I admit that I do not like smart speakers at all because I do not like the idea of having “someone” listening at all times to what is said in the house. It is an issue of privacy.

This new version of the device has a switch to disconnect the microphone and make sure that no one can hear us if we do not want to.

It is clear that the devices to give us information when we are at home are going to be more and more common every day.

All companies offer their models that do similar things, offering total communication between all household appliances. It is what they call the smart home.

I have my serious doubts about the need to have a smart home, because we do not have to complicate our lives unnecessarily, and above all I do not like at all that somebody “listens” to what happens in my house and earns money obtaining and selling “my” personal information.

Controlling sleep is an important function for health, and it is something that differentiates this Google Nest from other competitors. I don’t know how long it will take to “imitate” him.
