The interesting and new application of Google Maps

Not long ago Google announced that it was adding a new “application” to Google Maps through which it was possible to obtain information about the services that were within a Shopping Center.

It is called Indoor Live View and it informs us of the services that we can find in a closed area such as a Shopping Center, an Airport, etc … and it uses Artificial Intelligence capacity to inform us of what we need.

For a GPS system to work, it needs to contact satellites that provide it with information to calculate its geographical position, but in a closed space that does not work, because it cannot contact the satellites.

In a closed place, the mobile must “see” with its camera the images of its surroundings, and using the information in its “memory” and Artificial Intelligence tools to be able to deduce where it is physically.

Using this information, it can tell us the way to go to get where we want to go, a certain store, a bathroom, a movie theater, etc….

This new “contribution” from Google Maps is very interesting and will be highly appreciated by Android and iOS users.

It is already available in the USA in some cities (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc …) and will be extended to other cities in the USA and the world, starting with airports, train stations, large shopping centers, etc …

It is a good Augmented Reality tool that will end up being our daily bread, but the computing power required of the mobile device remains to be seen (processor power, need for internal memory, etc …) and it is likely that older mobiles cannot use it.

And I would not be surprised if some of these improvements (like this last one) that appear on mobile phones are offered in a payment system, because there is a lot of development work behind it, and those things cost a lot of money. It remains to be seen.

At the moment I like the idea and I hope that it reaches Europe as soon as possible, and also that I do not have to change my mobile to be able to use it.

The “problem” with these applications that make life easier for us is that we get “dumber” every day, because we hardly have to think for ourselves.

There are always people looking for “hits” to everything.
