Russia’s new hypersonic missile

A few months ago Russia declared operative a new hypersonic missile that they have called Avangard, and that cannot be counteracted by the current missile defenses.

It flies at 20 times the speed of sound and is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead of up to 2 megatons.

If we consider that the speed of sound is about 1220 km / h., this type of missiles fly at more than 20,000 km / h., so they reach their target in a few minutes and at these speeds they are very difficult to be dejected

The old intercontinental missiles left the atmosphere and re-entered it near the target, but these fly into the boundary layer of the atmosphere and the last part of their flight is done gliding towards the target at the speeds indicated above.

It seems that the Russians are currently more advanced than the Americans and the Chinese who are also developing this type of weapons.

And what is very clear is that we are once again in an arms race to see who has the “largest” and most destructive missile.

They are like children !! But children who dominate the world.

It is not known what will happen with the control treaties of this type of weapons. The START nuclear arms control treaty between Russia and the USA expires in February 2021, and President Trump has already made it known that he does not wish to renew it.

The emergence (by all, including China) of new more sophisticated missile systems does not facilitate the agreements, and it is also clear that every day that passes China has more to say in this area when before there was only two protagonists and now there are three.

The arms competition does not favor the creation of trust, but quite the opposite. It is clear that we are going towards a multipolar world, in which competition is fierce and trust in the other is non-existent.

And Europe is rendered hanging off the hook of this race.
