One of the great challenges of our economy

I have read with interest some statements by the CEO of IBM on the challenges of our society, and one of the most important (not the only one) is training in digital technology issues.

According to the McKinsey Institute, by 2030 there will be 375 million people who will have to learn new techniques to do their jobs, and most will need training in digital technologies.

People’s talents are evenly distributed, but training opportunities are not. And if these training opportunities do not reach the people, their capacities cannot be developed and those capable people will be left behind by technological development.

The challenge is enormous worldwide and no country can tackle it alone, so cooperation is essential between administrations and companies to seek a more just and balanced society.

With technically well-trained people, social differences will not continue to increase as has happened in recent years, since technology is part of the solution to the challenges we have.

We are continuously hearing about Artificial Intelligence and its multiple uses in all areas, of technological changes that are going to affect us right now, of the challenges of climate change, etc…. And apart from rethinking our way of life, it is clear that we need to train in these technologies. We cannot ignore them.

I have known (a little) the IBM SkillsBuild online learning platform and I congratulate IBM for this initiative, which is still one of the many needs we have.

More and more training will be less regulated to become “on-the-job training”, that is, learning about what we are working on, and a kind of continuous training over time.

Technology is the engine that generates wealth throughout the world, and each one must have the maximum interest in increasing their own abilities, which are fundamentally digital.

We are in a knowledge society, and this knowledge must be updated periodically. Those who are not formed will remain outside of development, will be irrelevant and will have few possibilities for the future.

Make no mistake, the situation is very serious and it will be more so in the future.

And each one has to decide what he wants for himself.

And remember, complaining is useless.
