One Health

It is possible that many do not know this organization, but today I bring it to my Blog because I think it is worth knowing.

They are defined as follows:

One Health is a collaborative, multisectoral and interdisciplinary approach, which works at the local, regional, national and global levels, with the goal of achieving optimal health results by recognizing the interconnection between people, animals, plants and their shared environment.

In other words, it is an organization that works to spread the message that on our planet we are ALL interconnected: people, animals and plants, and that what some do in some way affects others.

And those of us who act consciously are the people, so we have a greater responsibility for what is happening around us.

This non-profit organization was created around 2006 and over time it has been growing and achieving greater notoriety and influence.

They participate in a multitude of international projects interested in improving the health and living conditions of people and animals, considering the conditions of the environment in which they live.

The living environment they propose is totally in tune with the concerns of climate change, and our relationships with the animals we feed on.

If these animals are poorly treated and live stressed and in bad conditions, our food will be of lower quality and our health will suffer.

Every day more people move to the big cities, expanding into new geographical areas, which puts more pressure on “wild” nature because we take away part of their vital physical space. And then they get more in contact with us, with the possibility of increasing the contagion of pathogenic viruses between both parties.

We cannot aspire to good human health if the animals around us do not, and the same could be said of our environment.

Any degradation we cause will affect us sooner rather than later.

And sadly these theories have been confirmed in the case of the coronavirus, but there could be others later on.

To the question of: Do we want to have good health? The answer is that for this we must consider all the vectors of the equation, and not be as simplistic as we have been until now.

It depends on us, and I think we must thank the people of One Health who help us think with their work so that we can change our ways of living.

Only in this way can we achieve a healthier life.
