Many people don’t know how their devices work

In the world of data privacy there are two aspects that for me are the most important.

The first and most important one is that people should be interested and worry about keeping their privacy safe from other eyes.

The second is to know with some detail (not too much) how our smart devices work, and especially smartphones, speakers, etc … all those that can collect data from our activities.

Unfortunately, I think that few people are concerned about the issue of their privacy, if we see with what joy they show their life to the world, and not only theirs, but also that of everyone around them. For me they are “not adequate” people that I try to keep away from.

Anyone can live his life in a different way.

The other issue is more delicate and has to do with the minimum knowledge we should have about the devices we use.

Everyone knows what they can do with a device (mobile, smart speaker, etc …), but what many do not know is what those devices can do on their own and without our control; as well as the consequences that can be derived for us from its use.

All of them are devices that can listen and / or see what we do and what happens in our environment.

Although we think that the “listen” function is deactivated, we have no guarantee that it will be so. And “someone” can hear or see what we do.

After they have “caught” all the companies listening to what the users of their smart speakers said, they have promised that they will not do it any more, but what reasons do we have to believe them?

The Artificial Intelligence that works in these systems needs many iterations to gain experience, and the participation of people is essential to shorten the learning cycles. That’s why they do it, and I suppose they will continue to do it, but be careful not to get caught.

I think we have to ask the right questions before placing a device in the center of our lives (in our home), which almost nobody does.

They are selling us the idea of the “smart home” as the maximum happiness of our live. Let’s not be naive, it is nothing but having more control over our lives.

I am very clear that my house will never be smart. I prefer to open the house door with my key, turn on the lights with a manual switch, manually adjust my manual heating thermostat, and ,,,,.

Of course, maybe for other people I am not very intelligent.

Dear friends, today technological advances allow you to do many things that are not very necessary and absolutely not essential. Companies offer them to us because they earn money first with their sale, and then with the information they collect from us.

I think we should not be too naive and think a little about what we really need, before devoting ourselves to buying all the wonderful news they offer us.

Surely it will cost us less money and we will live more or less the same.

Other opinions are welcome.
