Google uses its AI to design the next AI chips
It’s like a dog chasing its tail, and Google’s AI programs are helping design the next chips to be used in new AI systems.
These chips are called TPU`s (Tensor Processing Units) and they perform the basic functions of the algorithms used in AI. And according to the information published by Google, its AI is capable of doing in a few hours the work that humans do in months to design these new chips.
Google is one of the most advanced companies in AI technologies, and this advance has been published in the prestigious journal Nature. In general, when a scientist publishes something in it, he makes sure that what he is publishing is true.
TPUs are accelerators for specific AI applications, and are generally designed for a certain specific function. They are powerful and complex electronic circuits (chips) that help AI to be decentralized and can be carried out from increasingly independent platforms.
It is expected that within a short time certain AI applications will be carried out inside mobile phones and similar devices.
AI systems do not think like humans, and they have the advantage of their enormous calculation capacity and of being able to perform a multitude of trial and error exercises, and in that way they are capable of beating humans, as they have already shown in the reasoning games (chess, Go, etc …) in which they have beaten the best experts in the world.
Nobody knows where AI is going to take us in the future, but it is very clear that it will generate profound changes in all facets of our lives. It’s only a matter of time, and the folks at Google are working hard to make it happen in the shortest amount of time.
