A company that promotes this type of store is the Israeli Trigo, which collaborates with large groups of international supermarket chains and there are already real stores operating in Tel Aviv, Munich, London, Berlin, New Jersey (USA), etc… After the tests and based on the results obtained, the companies will decide to expand to other stores.

The objective is for buyers to enter the store, take the products they want, if they have to weigh them, they weigh them, put them in their cart, and walk out the door without having to be attended by anyone at the checkout (because there are no checkouts). ). And the purchase made is charged to your credit card. A fast, simple process without human intervention

The Trigo system is based on cameras mounted on the ceiling, sensors on the scales and on some shelves of certain products, smart carts, etc… It is a sophisticated system that considers the entire purchase process, depending on the supermarket in question.

The cameras monitor what customers are doing at all times, and Trigo’s algorithms deduce what they are doing, in order to apply the corresponding charge.

The investments to be made for this type of store are not cheap, but if we consider the savings they represent in personnel costs, it is natural that they will spread throughout the world, starting with the countries with the highest salaries.

Let us remember that Amazon Go started its cashierless sales experience in Seattle in 2018, it already has 25 stores in the USA, and it is expanding them throughout Europe. These types of stores have a higher investment cost due to the technology they include, but they have significant cost savings in personnel, and if Amazon continues to add more stores it will be because it compensates them.

And since the other supermarket chains (large and small) are not stupid, they look for technological suppliers (such as Trigo or others) that provide them with that technology and those economies in their operations.

I am very clear that this trend will grow over time. The largest will start (which have already started) and the rest will follow. It is only a matter of time before it becomes something normal in our daily lives.
