Artificial Intelligence is another Industrial Revolution
More and more people are comparing the advent of AI to the arrival of the industrial revolution more than 100 years ago. And the same as in that time when nobody knew how this change would end up, it is also happening to us now.
Because AI is being introduced into all areas of human activity to change them, and we don’t know how far it will change them because AI is a system that learns by itself, and those of us who are “outside” of that “secret world ” of AI we have more doubts than certainties about where this technology is headed.
Some who have advocated for a temporary “stop” in its development to be able to establish “norms” in this regard, are doomed to failure, since the companies that master this technology are running faster every day to distance themselves from other competitors.
And they do it with the help of their respective governments, especially the USA and China, which are the countries that invest the most in these new developments, since both want to be at the forefront of world technological domination.
One characteristic of this technology is that it needs huge scale values to be applied. A small European country does not have the necessary size (not even Germany or France); and it is the USA and China that are making the greatest effort in this race to control the market, through their large companies and with much help from government investments.
China was not at the beginning of the first industrial revolution, but it is in this one. And it is going to do it as one of the leading countries in this field. They are very clear about it and they are not going to give up on their efforts.
Europe, on the other hand, seems quite clueless, and there is no big European company leading this change. The few that exist are all companies that depend on other, larger North American companies.
Once again it seems that Europe is following the US, and we will have to admit that our system of encouraging entrepreneurship is much worse than the North American one, and that is how we are doing. A real pity!!!
