Artificial Intelligence in the film industry

As AI is introduced into all kinds of activities, the film industry is no stranger to it, and it is used in many ways in film making.

Today AI algorithms help write scripts and create images and animations to produce the most realistic special effects.

AI can analyze large amounts of data that can anticipate a movie’s chances of success before it’s made, and suggest modifications to introduce to gain more market acceptance.

The AI can also analyze the possible future audience, and use algorithms to predict how many people will see that movie and how much money it will generate. In order to reduce the financial risk of producers.

And something similar happens when the film is finished. Dialogues can be modified to make them less rude (eliminating profanity), and dubbing into other languages without the need for dubbing actors from other countries.

The problem when dubbing a film into another language is the voice of the lead actor, and the way he moves his lips when speaking. When dubbing into another language, there is no correspondence between the voice being dubbed and the movement of his lips.

And this today is already corrected by companies that offer their AI products, as is the case with Flawless and others. These companies take a movie and dub it into another language using the same voice of the lead actor, which learns a machine with deep learning algorithms, and they also modify the movement of the actor’s lips to match what he says in the new language.

In this way, in a short time and costing much less money, a film producer can have different versions of his film in different languages. This is a reality in some of the latest movies made in Hollywood, and I suppose that every day it will be expanded.

Like everything in life, with these technologies there are people who benefit and others who lose (especially voice actors), but viewers will see their favorite actors with “their own” voice, or something very similar.

Another negative part of these technologies, which are going to spread more and more, is that anyone can carry out “deep fakes” to transmit any type of barbarity, and that many people believe it.

As long as the damage that some people can do on the Internet with their lies is not regulated, we will have a pending issue.
