Alphabet is the parent company of Google and of a large conglomerate of many others. Within its policy is the creation of new companies in technological market niches that then go on the market as “independent” companies.

And this is what they are doing with a new robot software development company that they have called Intrinsic.

This company is not going to build robots, but only software for robots.

And in Alphabet they know a lot about robots, because we cannot forget that they bought Boston Dynamics and made some of the most original and intelligent robots that have been seen. The company was later sold to SoftBank and later to Hyundai and continues to operate and very much alive.

The bet with Intrinsic is totally different, and its objective is to develop software and AI tools so that robots have the capacity for self-learning and carry out their tasks with very little programming time.

As an example, in the case of the previous photo, it is about having the software that makes the 4 robots able to work together quickly and easily.

Programming an industrial robot is something very complex and time consuming, with the particularity that any modification of its tasks must be reprogrammed, and that also takes time and is expensive.

Intrinsic people use simulation tools, deep learning, automatic perception, etc… so that robots can quickly and easily adapt to new tasks.

If we consider the millions of robots that are operating around the world, and the many millions that are installed each year (more than 3 million only in 2020), it seems that the market that Intrinsic is targeting has a certain importance and a good future, because more and more robots are installed all over the world.

Now they have to convince large companies of the opportunity of their proposal and carry out new experiences that demonstrate the viability of it.

Of course, at Alphabet they have a wealth of experience in AI, deep learning and other technologies to take advantage of in the generic world of robots.

In not long, we will see if they start to get results.
