A new wood?
That seems to be what some researchers have discovered a new kind of “wood”. Because they have generated a new wood-like material from the lignin of natural wood and then mixed with polymers.
The new “wood” achieved is more resistant, it also resists water better, and depending on the composition of the mixture, it can become transparent.
With which the possibilities of using these new woods multiply exponentially, within the construction and outside of it.
Even some automobile companies are interested in applying it to their products, as they could obtain cars with similar resistance to current ones and with much less weight. And therefore with lower consumption.
There is a project called Woodoo Augmented Wood in which they are working to obtain different types of new woods.
As they are capable of achieving very thin sheets, in some applications they add to these sheets some electronic components and can achieve touch-sensitive panels.
The possible applications seem to be the most creative.
It is curious that as a material (wood) which we have used for thousands of years, now we discover that we can find totally different applications.
This, in part, consists of technology; in being able to transcend something that we have in front of us, and from that create new products that would have been impossible a few years ago.
Every day we will see more things like this, and countries and companies that invest in technologies are establishing their future. And for those who don’t will have very difficult times ahead.
